The Baolai Humanities Gift Box: Savoring the Beauty of Local Craft

Challenge

The Baolai Humanities Association had built up strong results in ceramics, plant dyeing, and handmade treats, but these had only ever been presented separately, with no packaging that could bring them together into a single gifting occasion. That made it hard for outside visitors or partner organizations to get a sense of Baolai's diverse craft and cultural depth through one gift.

Goal

Design a cultural gift box that brings together ceramics, plant dyeing, and handmade treats, with packaging that balances local cultural elements with the feel of a proper gift, so recipients can experience Baolai's craft achievements and sense of place through both the contents and the box itself.

Approach

1. Planned the box structure to hold different materials and sizes, from ceramic plates to plant-dyed cloth, balancing safe storage with how the pieces are displayed.
2. Drew the outer packaging's colors and patterns from Baolai's natural scenery and craft textures, building a unified, recognizable visual language that stands out on a shelf.
3. Curated the contents across ceramics, plant dyeing, and handmade treats, so the box presents the association's diverse craft in full, while leaving room to adjust the combination for different recipients.

Outcome

The Baolai cultural gift box is now complete, from outer packaging to the layout of its contents. Ceramics, plant dyeing, and handmade treats were brought together in one gift proposal for the first time, giving the Baolai Humanities Association a physical gift that shows its diverse craft outward and works well as a gift for partner organizations.
