Plum Cider, Mango Beer: Packaging Design for Baolai's Best-Selling Sparkling Wines
The Baolai Humanities Association turned a surplus of plums and mangoes into two sparkling wines, 'Mei Zui' (Plum Cider) and 'Mang Zui' (Mango Beer). Howdy Creative designed the packaging for both, giving a local agricultural product a market-ready identity.
Challenge
Baolai's plum and mango harvests regularly face oversupply and falling prices in season. The association turned the surplus fruit into two fermented drinks, Mei Zui plum cider and Mang Zui golden mango sparkling wine, but after fermentation there was no packaging identity ready for markets and retail. Each product also needed a clear visual distinction so customers could immediately tell the variety and origin apart.
Goal
Design a complete packaging identity for the Mei Zui and Mang Zui sparkling wines that clearly distinguishes the plum wine from the mango sparkling wine, communicates the story of Baolai's local fruit fermentation, and comes with finished, production-ready files the products can actually go to market with.
Approach
- Built separate label shapes and color systems for Mei Zui (Plum Cider) and Mang Zui (Mango Beer) to sharpen the visual distinction between the two.
- Covered multiple formats, from single-bottle labels to two-bottle gift sets and toasting scenes, to serve both retail and gifting occasions.
- Included the local fruit's origin story on the label copy, so customers can understand the product's source and fermentation concept directly from the packaging.
Outcome
Mei Zui and Mang Zui sparkling wines now have complete packaging, from single-bottle labels to two-bottle gift boxes, giving the Baolai Humanities Association a market-ready identity for its fermented products and turning surplus plums and mangoes into sellable processed goods.
