Forest Made Product Photography: Turning Brand Assets into Usable Visuals with a Design Mindset

Brand IdentityMerchandise & Cultural Products

Howdy Creative was commissioned by the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's Pingtung Branch to shoot a full product photography series for its lifestyle brand "Forest Made," applying a design company's holistic thinking to turn forest-product value into visual assets that are genuinely ready for commercial use.

Challenge

When the Pingtung Branch promoted its "Forest Made" brand through photographers in the past, shoots often produced only a single styled shot per product. Later, when the team needed to build print DMs, in-store materials, or website pages, the compositions frequently didn't fit, requiring repeat shoots that drove up both communication time and cost.

Goal

Complete a single, thorough round of product photography for the "Forest Made" collection, with images that work across the website, printed DM, and in-store materials without reshoots. The goal was to balance strong product presentation with the flexibility and range needed for future applications, cutting down the chance of having to shoot again.

Approach

  1. Reviewed the layout needs of the website and printed materials before shooting, deciding each product's composition angle and margin allowance in advance to reduce on-site adjustments.
  2. Planned separate styled and studio shots for each product category, including owl-shaped building blocks, plush toys, picture book merchandise, and wood-carved bottle openers.
  3. Kept a consistent visual style and brand mark placement across the shoot, so the different product photos could form one cohesive visual series ready for future use.

Outcome

The "Forest Made" collection now has a batch of product photography that works directly across the website, DM, and in-store materials, covering owl building blocks, plush toys, picture book merchandise, and wood-carved bottle openers. The Pingtung Branch now owns reusable visual assets that don't require repeat shoots.

FAQ

How is product photography for a lifestyle brand different from standard commercial photography?
Howdy Creative leads with "design-directed photography." We plan how each photo will be laid out on the website, DM, or social media before the shoot, so we avoid discovering after the fact that a composition doesn't work and needing to reshoot.
If product photos need to work across multiple channels, what should we discuss with the design agency beforehand?
We recommend listing every placement the photos will appear in first, such as website banners, printed DMs, and social posts. Howdy Creative plans margins and aspect ratios around those needs so a single shoot covers every future use.
