Turning Heritage Sites Into a Mission: Visual Identity for a Kaohsiung Children's Theatre Camp

Event PlanningPrint & Graphic Design

For a children's theatre camp hosted by Kaohsiung's Bureau of Cultural Affairs, "Mission Across Time: The Secret of Takao," we designed a full visual identity that turned three heritage sites, the Takao British Consulate, the Xinbin-cho red brick row houses and the former Sanwa Bank, into an adventure story children could follow.

Challenge

This camp took children into three Kaohsiung heritage sites of different styles and eras, using theatrical missions to teach local history. The challenge was designing visuals that could serve each building's own story while still forming one recognizable identity, so children moving between venues would know they were still playing the same game.

Goal

Build a visual system carried by a "Time Agent" character, extending across a poster, banners, LINE stickers, name badges, light boxes, standees, banner hand-signs, video graphics and an event flow chart, 11 items in total, so the heritage event's identity stayed consistent from online promotion through to on-site execution.

Approach

  1. Designed a "Time Agent" boy character as the visual protagonist, backpack on and magnifying glass in hand, moving across a map of heritage sites, turning serious heritage education into an adventure children would want to join.
  2. Built the visuals on a vintage map texture, with orange-toned illustrations placing the Takao British Consulate, the Xinbin-cho red brick row houses and the former Sanwa Bank side by side, so children would recognize the three sites visually before even visiting them.
  3. Extended the same identity to on-site materials such as staff badges, hand-signs, standees and light boxes, writing separate standee copy for each heritage site's history so the design pieces themselves doubled as guides.
  4. Adjusted layout proportions across a wide range of output sizes and formats, from light boxes to hand-signs to banners, so the same visual identity held up consistently across every piece of on-site material.

Outcome

Delivered 11 items in total, main visual, poster, banners, LINE stickers, cultural newsletter material, staff badges, banner hand-signs, standees, light boxes, video graphics and an event flow chart, used at the theatre camp held at Kaohsiung's Wude Hall on August 19-22, 2025.

FAQ

How do you extend one event visual identity across more than a dozen design pieces?
We start by establishing one core character or motif that carries through the whole event, like the Time Agent for this Kaohsiung heritage camp, then adjust the layout proportions for each format, posters, badges, light boxes, standees, so the identity stays consistent across every piece on site.
What should you keep in mind when designing visuals for a children's camp?
Beyond catching children's attention visually, the content also has to stay factually accurate. We translate a venue's historical knowledge into a mission-style character story, so children naturally remember each site's distinct character while playing through it.
